Helstonbury Goes Green

This year Helstonbury has joined the revolution for a greener, more sustainable planet and is doing everything it can to make the festival as eco-friendly as possible. See below for a list of steps we have taken for the 2019’s festival:

Cups

This year Helstonbury has eradicated single-use plastic cups from the site and sees the introduction of branded, reusable Helstonbury cups for festival goers. Everyone will receive their own personal cup with purchase of a wristband, extra ones can be brought at the bar for £1, and at the end of the festival can either be left at the Blue Anchor to be used again in future years or can be kept and taken home to re-use.

T-shirts

The ever-popular Helstonbury t-shirts are back with another fantastic design, this year made from 100% organic cotton and printed with water-based inks. So you can look the part whilst knowing you’ve played your part in supporting a more sustainable and eco-friendly fashion industry.

Wristbands

Helstonbury will be providing festival-goers with material wristbands upon entry, this year made from recyclable bamboo material and locked with a recyclable aluminium lock.

Glitter

We all know a festival is not complete without glitter, however, traditional glitter is made from micro-plastics and is catastrophic for the environment. We are proud to have teamed up this year with Wild Glitter to provide our festival-goers with natural, biodegradable glitter! This will be available to purchase from the merchandise stall- so you can continue to sparkle and shine this Helstonbury, but guilt-free!

Vintage Pewter Tankards

Truly embrace the Blue Anchor style this year by purchasing a vintage pewter tankard*! As an alternative to the plastic cups that will be available for festival-goers, we have been buying in vintage pewter tankards from all over the country! A rustic, sustainable and beautiful way to enjoy your beverages this year, with all profits going into the charity pot, what’s not to like.

Please feel free to bring your own drinking vessel whether it’s a Pewter or festival cup.

*Pewters are all unique and will be sold on a first come first served basis. Available for £10 each from the merch stall. Limited stock.

Behind-The-Scenes

Our efforts are not contained to what only the eye can see. Behind the scenes, our bar staff will be using waste bags made from 100% recycled plastic as well as the bags for our delicious pasties (available in the Beer Garden bar!) being 100% compostable.
